We’re a 20+ person custom software development firm and have been in business for 15 years. Recently, a key long term client asked us to help them expand their offering and we’re recruiting for a permanent employee to assist primarily on this client’s projects. With our assistance, the client has created two large scale staff assessment and surveying platforms and we’ll be helping them grow the business into new areas.
You’ll be a member of a small team working directly with the client on a series of interesting and challenging projects. Technically speaking, most new work will be undertaken in Python, with some maintenance work in PHP.

What skills do you need to get the job?
Advanced coding skills – every day you’ll be solving hard software problems. You’ll have years of practice doing this (maybe you were paid, maybe you did it for fun).
Niceness – we expect you to be a nice person and work well in a team.
Self management – whilst we do set the direction for the projects we run, much of the way you organise your day will be up to you, so you need to have the self discipline to focus on tasks without a manager needing to chase you.
Communication – both in our regular meetings and in work generally, you’ll need to keep others informed about your work and seek input as required.
Fast – you need to be able to produce a reasonable volume of work for the time put in.
But most of all, you’ll need a passion for writing code. Typically staff here have spent years writing code in their spare time, just for fun because they love it. The result is they’re all great programmers.
Any specific skills that would be handy?
Excellent programming skills and a nice personality are our primary criteria. Beyond it’d be a bonus to have specific experience with the technologies we use including:
- CSS 3 / Bootstrap / jQuery / React
- PHP frameworks
- Django (for Python)
- Linux Admin
- Database development (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
- Web Application Testing frameworks (e.g. Selenium, Cucumber etc)

65K to 80K total package consisting of 60K base, $40/hour automated bonuses (see below) plus super.
(> 5 years commercial experience)
87K – 110K total package consisting of 80K base, $60/hour automated bonuses (see below) plus super.
For those in the 2 – 5 year a mid point can be negotiated.
Following probation you’ll receive automated bonuses. You’ll be expected to work a minimum 6.5 productive hours per day. Those who do more are paid an hourly bonus automatically each month. For example, a senior staff member working an average of 8 productive hours per day would earn $20,250 in bonus payments taking their salary to 100,250 + super (or gross $110K).
Please note – overtime requests are rare. You can do as many or as few bonus hours as you like. Some staff chose to work the minimum productive hours per day and focus on other parts of their life (which is fine), whilst others looking for additional income can easily earn between 10 and 20K + super in bonuses per year (and some earn more).
